Best Buy Scholarships

Best Buy was established more than fifty years ago and continues to be a leader in entertainment and appliance sales. It currently maintains chains of stores throughout the United States, China, and Canada. Perhaps Best Buy is most well known for it’s innovative “Greek Squad”, which provides computer repairs in the store or at the customer’s home. While many people are well aware of the services offered by Best Buy, it is less well-known that the company offers a number of different scholarships through its Best Buy Scholarship Program. These scholarships began begin offered around 1999.

Like many other large companies, Best Buy Scholarships are offered through Scholarship Management Services and were created to help give back to the community. Students can apply for these scholarships anytime between December and February of the application year. Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible, since no late applications will be considered and the site receives increased traffic during the final days of the open cycle.

In order to apply for this scholarship, students are required to have at least a 2.5 minimum grade point average. In addition, all applicants are required to live in either Puerto Rico or the United States and be a current high school student in one of those countries. All applicants must plan to enroll at an accredited college or university on a full-time basis, immediately following their high school graduation. Students can opt to enroll in a two-year, four-year, vocational, or online program. Lastly, all applicants must have either volunteer or work experience. These scholarships are not renewable. In fact, students are only eligible to receive the scholarship one-time. As such, previous winners are not able to re-apply for this award. In addition, employees or relatives of Best Buy employees can apply for this scholarship.

Students who are interested in applying for the scholarship can do so through Best Buy’s website. The online application will ask students to self-report information regarding a variety of different areas, such as their work history, extracurricular activities, and any volunteer experience that they have. In addition, students will be asked to report demographic information, such as their school contact information. All applicants are required to upload their current transcripts from high school. The scholarship seeks to find individuals who have strong grade pint averages, but does not exclude those with acceptance GPAs.

The scholarships provide students with $1,000 scholarships. The scholarship money will be made out directly to the applicant’s institution and as such, no money will be released directly to the student. The scholarship can be used to defray the cost of tuition or other educational expenses. It should also be noted that while current winners are still being funded through this program, new applications are not being accepted at this time. Students should check out Best Buy’s Corporate page to check for updates on their scholarship offerings.
