Deca Scholarships

Students who are seeking scholarships for college often wonder where to begin their search. One of the best places to start looking for scholarships is to complete the FAFSA application. This form will quickly tell you whether you have qualified for any funding from the state or federal government. If you have a strong grade point average, another great place to look for awards is the DECA Scholarship Program. This program has provided aspiring college students with hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships since the program was created. There are a variety of different scholarships that are offered through different donors. Each scholarship donor sets its own guidelines.

Students who are interested in applying for the DECA scholarships should first create a user name and password in order to log into the DECA Online Scholarship Program application form. Full instructions for creating a new account can be found here. The application deadline for the majority of the awards is mid-January. Students must be members of a DECA chapter and students should ask their school guidance counselor if their school has a chapter. College students may register as an individual member. All applicants are required to demonstrate that they have been involved in DECA. Additionally, since the scholarships are based on academic merit, students should be able to demonstrate that they have a high level of academic achievement. An endorsement from an advisor associated with DECA is required. Additionally, students are required to describe their work history.

The DECA Scholarship Foundation has a number of well-known corporate sponsors. For example, Walgreens offers four different scholarships which are each valued at $1,000. In order to be eligible for these awards, students must demonstrate that they have engaged in leadership activities, have been involved in their community, and that they have participated in DECA sponsored activities.

Another major corporate sponsor is Otis Spunkmeyer. Only students who have worked in their school store where these products are sold are eligible for this scholarship. Every year, ten different students are chosen to receive this award, which is valued at $1,000 per student.

NAPA Auto Parts also supports five different scholarships to DECA members. Each of these scholarships is worth $1,000. Only students who express an interest in the auto industry or students who have worked as an associate at NPA Auto Parts will be considered for this scholarship. Another five scholarships, each worth $1,500, are available to students who are members of DECA at the college level. Students who wish to apply for one of these awards must have an interest in marketing, business, and/or sales in order to be considered.
