Homeschool Scholarships

Students who are homeschooled have a number of unique educational experiences. Often, they have more individualized attention and have the opportunity to explore subjects that they find appealing. In addition, to these advantages of being homeschooled, students who are homeschooled also are eligible for a number of scholarships that were created just for them! In addition to exploring whether they are eligible for any federal, state, or local grants, homeschooled students may want to explore this homeschool scholarships:


Sonlight Scholarship: This company provides home-school curriculum materials related to religion and other topics. For customers, Sonlight offers scholarships worth $20,000.  Only students who have been customers are eligible to apply for the awards. The awards are broken down into two categories: “Green Criteria” and “Blue Criteria.” The “Green Criteria” places more emphasis on innovation and kindness while the “Blue Criteria” awards place more emphasis on academic achievement. Herb Kohl Excellent Scholarship Program: This program offers several awards for homeschooled students who are residents of Wisconsin. The awards are worth $3,000 and reward students for good citizenship, community involvement, and academic achievement. Additional information can be found at this website:

Homeschool Scholarships - The Homeschool HUB

The Homeschool HUB: This website maintains a list of various scholarships that are open to students who are homeschooled. The scholarships vary widely in amount of funding, eligibility criteria, and application process. Thus, students may want to spend some time looking through the list of available scholarships to determine which ones most closely match their individual needs. Homeschool Scholarship: This award is hosted by Homeschool Nation. The scholarship is only open to students who are homeschooled at it provides $1,000 worth of funding. In order to apply, students are required to create a profile at Winners are chosen based on the personal statements that they complete as part of their profile.


Lee-Jackson Foundation Scholarships: Two of the scholarships provided by this Foundation are open only to students who attend a private school or students who are homeschooled. These awards are only open to VA residents. In order to be considered for the award, students must write a brief essay of any length. Klipsan Beach Life Saving Station – Learning Vacations: This scholarship provides $300 to graduates of homeschooled programs. The scholarship emphasizes writing and thus, considers the writing score of the applicants’ SAT/ACT exam. Students must also have been involved in community service. In addition to the above scholarships, some individual colleges and universities offer grants exclusively to students who were homeschooled. For example, Covenant College provides a $1,000 scholarship. In order to be eligible for this award, students must have at least a 3.63 grade point average and have scored at least a 26 on the ACT or a 1180 on the Math and Reading portions of the SAT.
