Nebraska Scholarships

Students who hail from Nebraska may want to learn more about how to fund a college education. A number of resources exist through the Nebraska state government, the federal government, and individual Nebraska colleges and universities. Some of these awards are geared towards students who are residents of Nebraska, those who plan to enter a particular field, or those students who show academic promise. Below is a list of opportunities that are available to students with ties to Nebraska:

The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees’ Scholarship

The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees’ Scholarship: this award is open to students who plan to graduate from Nebraska high schools. Eligibility for this award is determined exclusively from standardized test scores. In order to be eligible, students must score at least a 25 on their ACT or a 1700 on their SAT. The award provides students will complete tuition coverage and can be renewed for four years.


The Nebraska State College System Governor’s Opportunity Award: this award is also offered to students who will be graduating from Nebraska high schools. This award requires slightly lower test scores than the former scholarship, but only provides students with funding to cover half of the tuition at their institution. Students must score a 24 on the ACT or at least a 1500 on their SAT. Additional information about this award and the Board of Trustees’ scholarship can be found here:


Collegebound Nebraska: this award is funded through the state government and eligible students receive free tuition at the University of Nebraska. In order to be eligible, students must be residents of Nebraska, qualify for a Pell grant based on the FAFSA application, and be admitted to the University of Nebraska. Only full-time students with at least a 2.5 grade point average are eligible for this award. Additional information about this scholarship can be found here:

Nebraska Legacy Scholarship

Nebraska Legacy Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to the children of University of Nebraska alumni. The student must have at least a 24 on their ACT or rank in the top third of their high school class. The award provides out-of-state students a waiver of the out-of-state costs and allows them to attend at the in-state price.


Chadron State College offers a number of different scholarships. Their Presidential Scholarship provides eligible students to receive tuition remission for up to four years if the student has at least a 3.0, a 25 on the ACT, and graduated in the top half of their class. Other awards, such as the Rick Hildreth Counseling/Psychology Scholarship, are open to students who plan a specific career path. This scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students who plan to major in psychology or counseling and who hold at least a 3.0 grade point average.
