Random Scholarships

Have you ever noticed that some scholarships are just plain weird? Sometimes, these scholarships can be really fun to apply for and can lighten the tone of having to find funding. Additionally, some of these awards are less competitive than larger merit-based awards. See below for a list of random scholarships:

Parapsychological Association Research Endowment

Parapsychological Association Research Endowment: this award is open to students who plan to study and describe parapsychological phenomena. Students are required to write a brief proposal (less than 3,000 words) on what they are researching. The amount of the award ranges from $2,000 to $5,000. Alice McArver Ratchford Scholarship for What You Don’t Do: This scholarship is open to any female college student who attends the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In order to be eligible, students must not have ever married and must reside on campus. Only students who do not have a car or other scholarships will be considered for the award.

Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest: Can you sound like a duck? If so, this weird scholarship is for you! This scholarship provides $2,000 to students who are high school seniors. Students must be able to perform a duck call and must show their calling skills during a contest.

Asparagus Club Scholarship

Asparagus Club Scholarship: This scholarship was created to help students in their last two years of college, as well as graduate students, afford a higher education. In order to be eligible for the award, students must be pursuing a major in food management, business, or a field related to the grocery industry. Each year, there are ten awards worth $4,000 that are given out. Students must be attending college on a full-time basis in order to be eligible. Tall Clubs International Scholarship

Tall Clubs International Scholarship:  This award provides a scholarship worth $1,000. In order to be eligible, students must be at least 21 years of age and entering their first year in college. Men are required to be at least 5’10” tall while women must be at least 6’2” tall.

Pokémon Scholarship Program

Play! Pokémon Scholarship Program: This scholarship provides $1,000 scholarships to high school freshmen thorough college graduate students. The awards go to students who are among the top finalists at the Pokémon Trading Card Game U.S. National Championships and World Championships. Students must be less than 28 years of age in order to be eligible for the scholarship.

Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship: This award is given to high school seniors who have been active in sharing their passion for vegetarianism with their community or school. Two awards worth $5,000 and one award worth $10,000 is given out. In order to apply, students must submit a completed application form prior to the Feb. 20th deadline. Students are asked to submit demographic information, educational and extracurricular information, provide an essay about their experience with being vegetarian, provide transcripts, three letter of recommendation, and any documentation of their efforts to promote vegetarianism.
