The Becas Univision Scholarship Program is open to students living in the United States who identify as Latino. This scholarship assist high school and college students afford a college education. This scholarship is open to students who are undocumented.
In order to be eligible for the Univision Scholarships, applicants must plan to enroll on a full-time basis at a graduate school or a four-year college. Students who are eligible to complete the FAFSA application should do so as early as possible during they year that they apply for the award. Current graduate and undergraduate college students are eligible for consideration provided that they hold at least a 2.5 grade point average. High School students will only be considered if they hold at least a 3.0 grade point average. All applicants must hold Hispanic heritage in order to be eligible.
The scholarship becomes available on the first day in January and all applications must be submitted prior to the deadline. The deadline for this year is March 30, 2017. In general, applications are processed soon after they are received, usually sometime between February and April. The selection process occurs between May to June and winners are notified between June and July. The actual funding is typically awarded sometime between October and December.
The value of the Univision Scholarships varies between $500 to $5,000. The scholarship is a one-time award, but students are eligible to re-apply for additional funding in future years. This money can be used to defray the cost of textbooks, tuition, student fees, room, board, and other expenses incurred that are related to education. In some cases, the money can also be used to cover the cost of studying abroad, provided that the student will be receiving credits and remains enrolled in their home university for the duration of the program.
