Washington State University Scholarships

Many students who are interested in attending Washington State University often ponder how to best afford their education. What students may not realize is that WSU offers a number of scholarships in order to make WSU more affordable to most applicants. The best way to start your WSU scholarship search is to complete the FAFSA application. When you complete the form, make sure to list WSU as one of the schools that you are interested in attending. This form will then quickly tell you whether you have qualified for any special funding at the federal or state level. In addition, it will send your financial information to WSU and then you can be considered for internal scholarships. Check out the additional WSU scholarships below, which you may be interested in considering:

WSU General Scholarship Application: If you don’t have the time or desire to apply to a variety of different scholarships, then this application is definitely for you! Simply complete one scholarship application and you will be automatically considered for more than 700 different scholarships that are offered through WSU. You will first be prompted to complete an account and then you must complete a brief application. Additional information about this application form can be found here. All students who are interested in completing this application form should do so prior to the January 31st deadline.

University Achievement Award: This scholarship provides eligible students with $2,000 per year. Any student who meets the eligibility criteria is automatically awarded this scholarship. In order to be eligible for this scholarship, students must plan to enroll at the Pullman campus of WSU for the fall term. In addition, students must be residents of Washington State and of the United States. Furthermore, all applicants must hold at least a 3.4 grade point average and achieve a minimum score on their SAT or ACT test (this number changes each year and as such, students should look at this website to determine what the current requisite score is). This scholarship can be renewed for up to four semesters provided that the applicant holds a 3.0 GPA during their college career and meet additional eligibility criteria.

National Merit Scholarship: This award is open to students who were selected as semifinalists in the National Merit Corporation Competition. In order to be eligible, students must have been accepted to WSU. In fact, students are required to list WSU as their top choice school on the National Merit Scholarship Corporation prior to May 1st in order to be considered for this award. This scholarship is one of the top awards offered by WSU. The amount of the award varies slightly depending on whether the applicant is a resident or non-resident of Washington State. Students who hail from other states can receive approximately $98,000 through this funding mechanism. Students who are from Washington State receive approximately $39,000 in scholarships funds. This discrepancy in funding is due primarily to the difference in the tuition cost for in-state and out-of-state applicants. Additional information is available here.
